The Alien Queen is the grandmother of the elite force that landed on Judgement Day. She is the oldest living member of the unit, older than earth's continental plates in their current positions, and the only member whose authority the Hive answers to without translation. Her grandson plans. She decides.

The seat

She does not move during the ground campaign. She sits in a location the On-Grid Society has never confirmed — inferred from the shape of decisions made elsewhere, from the cadence of bacterium releases across the zones, from the pattern of hive-signal spikes that have no obvious trigger. Wherever she is, it is not hidden by cover. It is hidden by how still it is. Nothing around her happens until she has considered it.

The authority

The Hive obeys its own distributed logic most of the time. Partial strains, carriers, migration patterns, attack timing — all of it can run without a top. Three things the Hive does not do without her: release a new bacterium strain, stand down from an engagement the elite force has committed to, and negotiate. For all three, the Hive waits for her.

The relationship with the Prince

The Alien Prince is her grandson and her chief strategist. He submits options. She chooses. He has never argued a choice with her in front of the rest of the family, and she has never reversed one after making it. Whether the humans who track alien comms have ever heard her speak is an open question. Nobody the On-Grid caste has interviewed remembers a voice — only the aftermath of a decision.

Why she matters

The counter-offensive has been assuming the enemy is a network — distributed, bargainable-with at the edges, tractable through partial infiltration. The Alien Queen is the part of the enemy that makes that assumption wrong. She is the centre the Hive actually has. If the network's plan depends on the absence of a top, it is already a plan the Queen has priced in.
