A Dome is protection infrastructure

A Grid can begin under open sky while the settlement is planned for a future climate shell. Its basic form allows protection to be added later without rebuilding the community from the ground up.

The Dome becomes an option the Grid can grow into once local conditions justify it and residents are ready to maintain it.

Once built, the shell changes what an ordinary day can survive. The settlement can keep functioning when the climate outside becomes difficult, although that protection creates a permanent engineering responsibility.

A Grid must understand how to maintain the environment beneath the shell before it becomes dependent on one.

This upgrade path could open more of Earth's difficult land to settlement. Parts of northern Canada and Russia remain challenging because of prolonged cold.

Desert regions face the opposite pressure, where heat can make ordinary life fragile. A Dome allows the network to adapt to those conditions without pretending the land is naturally easy to inhabit.

A covered Grid is not more complete than an open one. The shell is justified only when it protects life while remaining repairable.

Emergency access must stay practical, and the route out must remain open. A successful Dome strengthens the settlement without cutting it off from the network around it.
